Jinli ancient street is a street in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The street is about 550 meters long. It is a part of the Temple of Marquis, and the buildings are in the Qing Dynasty style. The theme is Three Kingdoms Culture, a traditional folk custom. There are many bars, inns, snack stores, and souvenir shops. The street was renovated in 2004. In 2005, Jinli was named as “National Top Ten City Commercial Pedestrian Street.” In 2006, Jinli was named “National Demonstration Base Of The Cultural Industry” by the Ministry of Culture. There are approximately 18,000,000 visitors a year. Especially in Spring Festival, more people come to visit “Big Temple Fair”.
Jinli was restored and constructed by Chengdu Wuhou Temple Museum. As a part of Wuhou Temple (Three Kingdoms Historical Relics Area, Jinli Folk Customs Area, West District), the street is 550 meters long. It is now a famous pedestrian shopping street in Chengdu. It is an antique building with architectural style in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.
The main content is the culture of the Three Kingdoms and the traditional folk culture of Sichuan. The ancient street’s layout is rigorous and orderly, with bars and entertainment areas, Sichuanese food areas, old-house inns area, and special tourist crafts exhibition areas. Jinli was officially opened to the public in October 2004. Its extension section Jinli Phase II (Shui’an Jinli) began to welcome guests in January 2009.
Jinli Ancient Street, one of Chengdu’s cultural business cards, has been upgraded. Jinli relies on Wuhou Temple. “Bai Wuhou Pao Jinli” has become one of the most appealing and resounding slogans of Chengdu tourism. In 2005, Jinli was selected as one of the “Top Ten Commercial Pedestrian Streets in the Country.” It is famous as Beijing Wangfujing, Wuhan Jianghan Road, Chongqing Jiefangbei, Tianjin Heping Road, and other well-known old-branded streets. In 2006, Jinli was awarded the “National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base” by the Ministry of Culture.
In 2019 CNN Travel listed Jinli Ancient Street as one of the world’s most beautiful streets.
Qing Dynasty style wooden houses and shops, replete with red lanterns and traditional signage help make Chengdu’s biggest tourist attraction look pleasingly historic. While it was restored into its current form in 2004, Jinli Street traces its history back some 1,800 years, making it one of the oldest shopping streets in Sichuan province.
